Bachelor of Music

Ye Lian He

Singapore - Violoncello

I have recently been given the opportunity to study at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in the UK and had planned to start my postgraduate education in a different country with a different setting. To date, my time there has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my student life. There are few institutions around the world that can provide such a level of education for a cellist such as myself. Not only did I receive the opportunity to study with a world famous teacher and performer, I was also among peers who, like me, aim for excellence in the same areas such as performance and ensembles.

Being in Europe, I have also had access to three different professional orchestras which give concerts on a weekly basis. I would have had real difficulties studying in the UK if it wasn’t for the Faculty of Music’s generous scholarship. The Faculty has paid special attention to my growth and well-being over the years. Even having graduated from the Conservatorium, I still receive active support in furthering my career from the Faculty.

I was the inaugural winner of the Joyce McKenna Scholarship to study overseas.
